BallGameTM v1.0.0 is out!
After two years of working on and off on this project BallGameTM is finally out!
This builds on everything that I've learned while working on Mystery Tower, so input management, level loading, menus, and so many other things were already solved problems (though I did take the opportunity to clean up my code base).
That said, making a 3D plaftormer was way different and more challenging than making a game with a single perspective. Other than the *fun* that was rotating the input for the camera (for the curious, this is my implementation), making a barely working camera is really hard! I now have an appreciation for cameras in 3D games.
This was also the first time I've ever used live instruments in a game's soundtrack. The drums is still entirely synthesized, but the guitars (and the rain effect) were all live recorded.
Although I initially considered making four worlds for this game, I had settled on only two worlds after the first year. However, after sitting on the project for a long while, I eventually decided on making a third one, using the theme of a "lava river/mountains". I then took that opportunity to try making some lava effects based on the video How scrolling textures gave Super Mario Galaxy 2 its charm.
If I ever comeback to this game, I may do the fourth and final world (which I considered using the theme "space"). But for now, I'm quite satisfied with how it came out, though! :D
